East Rand Computers Service Policy

By accessing East Rand Computers’ website at https://eastrandcomputers.co.za and accepting any Quotations received by East Rand Computers, you agree to this Service Policy. Should you not agree with this Service Policy, you are prohibited from using any of these services provided by East Rand Computers.

East Rand Computers reserves the right to review and amend these Service policies at our sole discretion. Whereafter, this Service Policy page will be updated to reflect the changes noted by the 'Last revised' date. Any changes to this Service Policy will take effect immediately from the date of publication.

 

Key points to note:

  • There are times when East Rand Computers cannot fix your devices either because it's unfixable, it's uneconomical to proceed, or we cannot diagnose the fault. In such cases, a repair attempt fee of R300 is charged for the time spent working on your device and for collection and delivery.
  • Any device requiring board-level repairs cannot be performed on-site. Your device(s) will be collected to be brought to East Rand Computers' workbench for disassembly and further inspections to undergo repairs. This may not be limited to board repair devices but to any device requiring further analysis.
  • East Rand Computers may take pictures and/or video recordings of your device(s) to upload to East Rand Computers’ social media platforms and website. All personal and sensitive user information will not be shown or published publically.
  • When your device is ready to be returned, East Rand Computers will send you the invoice. Once paid in full, East Rand Computers will deliver your device.
  • East Rand Computers cannot keep and store your devices for more than 60 days after the invoice has been sent to you unless prior arrangements have been made and confirmed. East Rand Computers will not be held responsible for the loss, theft, or damage of your devices during this storage period for any device that has gone unpaid after 60 days. If East Rand Computers does not hear back from you within those 60 days, East Rand Computers has the right to recycle or sell off your devices to recover the cost of services rendered to settle the outstanding invoice amount.
  • East Rand Computers also deals with liquid-damaged devices, which may reveal further damage to other components such as displays, trackpads, keyboards, storage drives, speakers, batteries, and any other hardware components that may go unknown until the initial liquid damage is repaired. As such, this may incur additional charges on further repairs or component replacements of such hardware, as mentioned above. You will be notified first before any further action is taken.
  • Data recovery of any kind should be done by professionals who recover precious and sensitive data daily. East Rand Computers is NOT a data recovery specialist. In instances where, for example, your hard drive with all your information on it will no longer turn on or be recognised by your computer, East Rand Computers is still able to take a look at the hard drive and do basic checks, whether it be through software or visual hardware inspections, all whilst potentially saving you from thousands of Rands in data recovery costs. Should you wish to give East Rand Computers the go-ahead for a repair attempt, East Rand Computers will not be held responsible in any way whatsoever for the loss of your data.

 

Understand the risks involved in electronic repairs:

  • Any form of repair to your device(s) can be unpredictable. Your device may be beyond repair, but this can only be determined after initially analysing your device. It’s also possible that your device may be rendered useless after performing said repairs on it. By using East Rand Computers’ repair service, you fully understand this and take full risk of your device, whether it be a computer, smartphone, tablet, gaming console, or device of any form.
  • Liquid damage and the results of liquid damage only increase and worsen the longer a device goes without being sent in for repairs. As such, it further decreases the chances of fixing your devices, as liquid damage causes damage to the electrical traces found on printed circuit boards (aka mainboards or motherboards) and causes components to rust, oxidize, or short-circuit.
  • Screens are delicate, and whilst the utmost precaution is taken, glass is glass and is easily cracked or broken. Glass breaking becomes more prominent when prying screens to remove them from mobile devices to gain access to their internals to perform the necessary repairs.
  • Replacing components such as face scanners, fingerprint sensors, or displays, to mention a few examples, may render these features non-functional or certain instances that rely on the original components to function correctly as manufacturers lock down hardware components with software that detects if certain parts are no longer the originals to the device and as such, you may lose the ability to unlock your device using your facial recognition, using your fingerprint, or certain display features will be lost. There’s nothing East Rand computers can do about this.

 

Payments:

  • East Rand Computers accepts cash and electronic funds transfer (EFT) to our FNB account.
  • It's a requirement that invoices are settled in full on-site once the job is complete and all is satisfactory. East Rand Computers cannot accept a later payment, such as at the end of the month, next week, or next time. Thank you for understanding.
  • Any invoice not paid for in full after 60 days from being issued, your device will be disposed of or sold off to recover the costs of services rendered unless prior arrangements have been made with East Rand Computers to hold onto your device(s) until they are ready to be delivered back to you.

 

Limited warranty:

  • Most repairs carried out by East Rand Computers come with a 90-day warranty. Should an issue occur related to the original work performed during the 90-day warranty period, the repairs undertaken will be free of charge. Any replacement components, whether hardware or replacement components, also carry a 90-day warranty from the service date.
  • Should your device(s) develop a different or separate issue that is not directly related to the original fault as worked on by East Rand Computers, you will be informed of the issue(s) and the associated costs in replacement parts and repair fees.

East Rand Computers does not offer a warranty for:

  • Repairs such as, but not limited to, game controller analog stick drift. This replaceable component is made to wear and will do so again eventually.
  • Customer-provided replacement parts/upgrades.
  • Any software-related issues, including virus removals, operating system installations, and software installations of any kind.
  • Tampering of any kind, including the upgrading or replacing of all parts/components or if your device was worked on by a third party other than East Rand Computers.
  • Devices that are still under warranty from the original manufacturer or authorised outlet from where you purchased your device. In these instances, it’s recommended you return your devices to them. By going with East Rand Computers as your preferred technician, you acknowledge that your warranty may be void by the original manufacturer/sales outlet.

 

Turnaround time:

  • The amount of time spent working on a device will vary from one to the next. East Rand Computers strives to have your devices to you within 24-48 hours. However, when it comes to diagnosing and working on board-level repairs, it may take considerably longer. East Rand Computers cannot guarantee a turnaround time. However, you will updated regularly.

 

Replacement parts and upgrades:

  • When hardware and replacement parts need to be purchased, East Rand Computers will send an initial invoice to place and secure your order for the parts. Once this invoice has been paid and received in full, East Rand Computers can begin the work on your devices. Once the job is complete, a final invoice is sent for the work labour charges.

 

Data and personal files:
It is made clear that:

  • East Rand Computers is not responsible for your data.
  • East Rand Computers cannot be held liable for the loss of your data resulting from the services undertaken on your devices.
  • You must make any backups yourself where possible before using East Rand Computers’ services.
  • East Rand Computers backups your data when doing a job that involves moving it around, for example, replacing a drive that has crashed, died, is broken or damaged. East Rand Computers do not retain the backup. It is deleted immediately after verifying that the backup has been fully and successfully restored onto the new drive.
  • East Rand Computers' backup is not your backup! Do not assume East Rand Computers has a backup for your own future use.
